Why do I have to connect my xbox directly to my modem to play GTA IV online?

Every other game i can play my xbox to my router … but I always try to get online with GTA IV it says disconnected from game session … back to a single player. It's really annoying. So I found the only way I can play is by hooking it via modem. Is there any way I can play through my new mark, cisco linksys router?
