How I can transfer videos from a NAS to my Mac?
I currently operate my NAS as an FTP server, but in order to watch any movie I have in it (most of the content) I have to wait to download movie files … that are large and have a good amount of time to complete. The Intel's NAS im SS-4200 and I know that is compatible with UPnP and DLNA, but after hours of looking I can not seem to find a tutorial on how you can convey your content only for my team and not to a PS3 or Xbox or something. What would be the simplest way I could play movies from the server to my macbook pro? Nothing too technical please! Thank you very much!
You need to configure the NAS as a network drive is not a unit of FTP! Most units NAS running Linux (or some variance and allow SAMBA to share files as if you share files from MAC. Once set, you can then use the files as "Local." Http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/opensource/?p=173 also just do a search for SMB file sharing (which will help you get up). Refer to your NAS should also tell you what you need. You may not use FTP to "share" its simply a file transfer that requires loading and unloading work.
